Beginning a New Journey

After months of consideration, I finally decided to talk to my doctor about medical marijuana. Surprisingly, she gave positive feedback. I have obtained my certification for my state and will start my new journey next week.

I am 61 and have had a fibromyalgia diagnosis for over 20 years. In fact, when I was initially diagnosed by a rheumatologist, I’d never heard of it.

All these years of muscle relaxers, Nsaids, opiates, antidepressants, chiropractic, vitamins, supplements, physical therapy, massage, Reiki, exercise, you name it, I’ve likely tried it. Still I have no relief. Mostly, my pain is not debilitating on a daily basis. But it’s like having a toothache that never stops. Sometimes it’s very bad, sometimes, not so bad. But it’s always there. Always. At worst, it’s like my whole body having a mammogram. Everything being squeezed. Men, if you are curious how this feels, place your penis between 2 encyclopedias and have someone sit on them. To understand how it feels on a daily basis, place a clothespin on your finger and set your timer to 15 minutes. Don’t take the clothespin off. Tell me how it feels. And be glad you can take it off after 15 minutes! And, getting my blood pressure taken is a killer, hurts like hell and leaves brusies. I refuse to use the automatic arm ones. Wrist ones are ok.

So, my health is as such: fibromyalgia, hypothyroidism, reflux,¬†osteoarthritis, asthma, depression. My current prescription list includes: prozac, meloxicam, flovent, ventolin, synthroid (275 mcg), prilosec, singulair, soma, vit D, vit C, iron. No blood pressure or cholesterol issues. Currently, my thyroid is way out of whack at 14.22, it’s normally 2.5. My thyroid gland was removed about 4 years ago, pre-cancerous.

I’m excited to try something new. I don’t want street weed. I don’t want the psych effects. I want weed that is specific to my need. I don’t want to smoke it. I want to do tinctures, topicals and edibles. I was surprised that my primary care doctor said, with an encouraging smile, that most of her fibro patients get a lot of relief with medical cannabis.

So, I’ll check back and let you know how it’s going. Wish me luck!

Update 05/03/15:

Got my MMMP cards in the mail yesterday. They expire 06/28/15. Yes, 15. Guess I’ll find out tomorrow how long it’s going to take to get that straight!

Update 05/08/15:

Corrected cards came yesterday, with an expiration date of 2016. Went today to get my first — doses? Purchase? Whatever. I had researched various caregivers on ¬† and decided against the chain-store type dispensary and went instead with an individual. I was advised to use LA Woman for nighttime and Dice for daytime. So, I’ll start tonight and see how it goes. He had no tinctures so I will be vaping. He gave me 3 sample cookies to try, advising to start with 1/4 of a cookie. Kinda hope they aren’t good, cuz if they are, can I stop at 1/4?? LOL And there is a sample of Kush. I don’t like to know beforehand what medications may do because I don’t want to manifest symptoms. So, I’ll try these and find out what they do for me.
